The experience of being at Delhi BnB was a great introduction to India for me. The room was comfortable, hosts friendly and it was lovely to be able to sit in different areas – I enjoyed the deck on the top floor and the courtyard. Having plants around was quite a comforting familiarity to me as I love gardening and could identify some of the plants – this added to the homely feel.
It was also great to be able to share breakfast with the family and to meet other travellers also and hear their stories. India has made me think a great deal about the importance and involvement of family for me personally and it was great to see this in a home environment and to share some thoughts about this over the dining table.

Most of all it was very interesting for us to experience a real family home and talk to charming people – something, which a tourist in a large city rarely gets to do. It is invaluable to be able to ask those strange little question to normal people who know and are part of the Delhi society. I read a description in Frommer’s that recommended Delhi Bed and Breakfast as a “gentle introduction to India” for those travellers that don’t mind staying away from center; It was precisely that for us. We were very appreciative of all information on the website. We were so happy to see the arranged taxi at the airport after such a long and tiring flight. The friendly greeting after mid-night and very clean and nice rooms were wonderful. In the morning we were received as honoured guests for tea before breakfast and special adjustments were made for dietary restrictions for breakfast. The safe walk to nearby shopping area (got simcard for cell phone, fixed broken eye-glass, and got new battery for watch) is an advantage for the location. We really and truly enjoyed our stay, an I’m only sorry we’re not staying on our way back through Delhi – but we had to diversify our risk, so to speak. We tend to stay only at smaller establishments, but there was something particularly good here about it simultaneously feeling intimate/inviting and yet also as though the household carried on its own so that we didn’t feel too much of an influence or imposition. Finding the right place to stay can make such an influence on one’s experience, and I went from worrying that we shouldn’t be spending any time in Delhi, to pleased as anything about how it went. Getting good food in Delhi can be quite a challenge, so being able to have a delicious foo and some company to share was well appreciated. The children found their pillows a little hard. The water was hot, the room was cleaned regularly. The food was plentiful and delicious. The laundry was cleaned efficiently. The breakfast was nourishing, substantial and balanced. We loved the creamy, scrambled eggs, the variety of spiced potato dishes and the fresh papaya. We have been given an insight into one Indian family’s life – an experience we would not have had in a hotel. Free safe drinking water was appreciated.
